I had my MOP kids the other day and we decided since Easter was coming up that we should do an Easter project; we came up with Mosaic Foam Crosses. These crosses ended up being the perfect kids craft; they did not want to stop at making them. When deciding on making this craft we had to keep into consideration that all our MOPS kids are 2 years old. This age appropriate craft helped with their hand eye coordination.
What you will need.
- Foam Crosses
- Tissue paper in several colors
Preparation, this is the key to a successful craft with a two year old if you are not ready they will lose interest. To insure the letters where centered I started with the “O” in the middle of the cross and filled in the rest of the words. Love was written vertical, while God was written horizontal. Then, I took the tissue paper and cut it randomly into pieces about 1″ to 2″ square, rectangle, etc.
Have the children place glue over the whole cross. Then, they can add the tissue paper. Being that this group of kids are all 2 years old the tissue paper was half on in some cases so I used scissors to trim the tissue paper. I also found if the placed a darker piece of tissue paper over the top of the lettering or multiple pieces that you could add more glue to the top of the tissue paper to make it more transparent allowing the lettering to show through.
The children had so much fun making this Mosaic Easter Crosses that they wanted to make more than one. There little fingers mastered this craft perfectly.
