Fall is here and the apples are ready for eating. My Mother-in-laws apple tree is exploding with apples, so she brought us a bag the other day. You girls were so excited because they had been asking to make Homemade Applesauce. This was my first time making applesauce, so I searched the internet to check out a few recipes and figure out how I wanted to make mine. I can’t believe how many different recipes are out there, WOW!
What you will need:
- Brown Sugar
- Cutting Board
- Potato Masher
The first thing we did was wash, peel and cut the apples.
Next, we placed all the cut up apples in the pot. (My daughter Becca was very sad she couldn’t cut and peel the apples, so placing the apples in the pot was a great, age appropriate job!) We then added enough water to cover the apples and added about a teaspoon of lemon. (This helps in breaking down the apples.) Finally, we placed the pot of apples on the stove to simmer until the apples were tender.
I just had to share with you a picture of my daughters..they were having so much fun!
Once, the apples were tender, I drained about half of the water out and smashed the apples with potato masher. Then, the best part taste testing, try a little bit to check how sweet the applesauce is, ours was pretty sweet naturally, but I did add about 1/4 cup of sugar to my Homemade Applesauce for extra sweetness. Lastly, placed the applesauce in the refrigerator to get cold. (I have to be honest; the girls were getting inpatient, so I placed it in the freezer for a bit too.)
Here is our finished HOMEMADE APPLESAUCE. It turned out to be so yummy; the kids gobbled it right up.
