I can’t stress to you enough how much fun and how easy it is making Headbands! You can make them as complex or simple as you like and they all look amazing. My daughter is about to turn 4 and she having a Little Mermaid Under the Sea Birthday Party. She has this great vision of her dressed as Arial and all those attending dressed like Arial’s sister. I explained to her that not everyone has a mermaid costume, but we can make headbands and they can dress in whatever and the Under the Sea Mermaid Headbands will make them look like mermaids, she agreed!
What you will need:
- Ribbon that has Elastic in it
- Sea Shells
- Artificial Flowers
- Glue Gun
- Really you can use anything….let your creativity flow.
I started with making the band. When making the headband, I thought I was going to have to sew them together, but I tried hot glue and it worked, very, very simply! Simply cut the desired length of ribbon and hot glue the ribbon together. The ribbon length will vary with the age and size of the child.
Here is what my work stationed looked like. I left everything out in front of me so I could create and change things as I went along. I created the headband on my matt, then hot glue it to the band once, I was happy with the finished product. When hot gluing the embellishments to the band, I would place the major piece over where I had glued the band together so you would not see the seam.
We decided that we would make each headband unique for the girls (Mermaids) that would be attending. Here are a few my daughters, niece and I created!

Becca cannot wait to give them out at her Little Mermaid Under the Sea Party. She had a blast picking out which headbands would go to which friend…I truly think she designed them to her friend’s personalities the best she could.
